This may seem like an odd thing to add protein powder to, but the strong flavors from garlic and basil mask the protein taste and just add a little extra to your pesto. With this one we used plant-based Nourish protein powder and kept it vegan, but you can certainly use whey based and add a little parmesan cheese if you aren’t avoiding dairy.
Vegan Protein Pesto
Recipe Type: Dips
Serving Size: 2 tablespoons
Makes 3 cups
- 8 cups basil
- ½ cup pine nuts
- 1 ½ cups walnuts
- 4 large cloves of garlic
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup vanilla, plant-based Nourish protein powder
- 1 cup olive oil
- In a food processor blend basil, pine nuts, garlic, cheese( if using), salt, and protein powder.
- Slowly pour in olive oil while blending until everything is smooth.
- Serve immediately or cover leftovers to prevent browning.
