This may seem like an odd thing to add protein powder to, but the strong flavors from garlic and basil mask the protein taste and just add a little extra to your pesto. With this one we used plant-based Nourish protein powder and kept it vegan, but you can certainly use whey based and add a little parmesan cheese if you aren’t avoiding dairy.

Makes 3 cups

Ingredients

  • 8 cups basil
  • ½ cup pine nuts
  • 1 ½ cups walnuts
  • 4 large cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup vanilla, plant-based Nourish protein powder
  • 1 cup olive oil

Directions

  1. In a food processor blend basil, pine nuts, garlic, cheese( if using), salt, and protein powder.
  2. Slowly pour in olive oil while blending until everything is smooth.
  3. Serve immediately or cover leftovers to prevent browning.
