Staying in shape can be difficult through the holidays and colder weather. Somehow fast food makes its way into our tummies while we’re out doing holiday shopping, the weather makes it not so fun to go outside and activity levels go down and those holiday treats are just too good to pass up. Here are some small changes to your everyday life that can make a big change in not losing your summer body.

Set Realistic Goals: Set a goal that you can stick to. If you know you can’t have a cheat day go cold turkey. If you know you eat treats everyday, set a cheat day to a day or two. Whatever you do make it reasonable for you so you can stick with it.

Get Over It: If you mess up, don’t call the whole week a failure. Get back at it the next day and keep going. One day won’t hurt, but if you give up all together your health will slide right back down.

Dress Warm: Layers, layers, layers. Adding layers along with finding something you love to do outside in the snow can make colder weather bearable. Hit the slopes and go snowboarding or skiing, go snowshoeing or take the family sledding (we all know those hills are a beast of a workout). Get cozy and don’t let the cold weather slow you down.

Stay away from Added Calories: If those warm slow cooker meals that are as many calories as you should intake in your whole day are your weakness, find healthy substitutes or healthier recipes.

Morning Workouts: If you love morning workouts but it’s just a little too cold to get out of your bed in the morning, put your house temperature on a timer and set it to get a little warmer right before your alarm goes off, so getting out of bed isn’t so miserable.

Bring Healthy Food: Holiday parties can be great fun, but the worst things for your love handles. Bring some healthy substitutes so you know there will be something healthier to eat and then add in a small portion of a sugary treat if you must. Or eat some vegetables before you go so you aren’t as hungry to splurge on all the sugar.

Fight the Cold: We all know with winter, sickness comes. If you have a cold or feel well enough to be up, try to do a gentler activity without overdoing it. This will help you stay in shape but also let your body recover.

Find Something Motivating: Plan a trip to the beach, hit the hot tub frequently or find something that will motivate you to keep your bikini body.
