Every morning, I have the same internal battle. “Do I really want to do this? Do I really want to go for a run?” As I lace up my shoes, the war rages, even into my first few strides.
Even though I’ve hit the pavement consistently for the last few years, I’ve continued to struggle with the everyday ups and downs of workout motivation. So when I’m looking for that extra mental energy boost, music has always helped. That’s why RockMyRun has become my go-to running app. The simplicity and features help keep me on pace, and it’s taken my running to a whole new level of enjoyment.
One of my favorite benefits is the wide range of music, since my musical taste is very eclectic. When I’m using RockMyRun, I appreciate not having to dig through a library of music to find just the right selections. The app’s user-friendly sorting saves me valuable early morning sleep time, since I’m not sorting through music or waiting for lengthy downloads.
The first time I logged on, I was asked what types of music and exercise activities I enjoy. Next, I selected my pace from three options. It then provided me with music that correlated with both my running pace and music preferences. Since I’ve completed several marathons, I understand the power of music, as well as the consequences of starting too fast or too slow. It can ultimately destroy your running goal. So instead of humming my pace tunes in my head (which continually change, depending on my mood), I now have a reliable, individual pace-setting tool!
The next set-up step was creating my performance goals. The options “Lose weight,” “Perform better,” or “Have fun” gave me control of my fitness. I was finally ready to start my run, so I tapped, “Workout now.” As the bass dropped its first chord, I set out.
As I listened, I was very impressed with the mix. I heard familiar songs from artists I know well, along with a few new selections that I also enjoyed. Each song played at just the right time, which helped me maintain a tempo that helped me reach my running goal.
After my run, I explored the app a bit further. I was so impressed with the sound quality of the music on my first outing, that I decided to check out some of the other playlists and features. I was delighted. As an iFit member, unlimited access to the Rockstar version of the app allows you to adjust the tempo of songs based on BPM (beats per minute), steps, or heart rate. Knowing my marathon BPM, I was able to adjust any song to fit my personal running tempo. Amazingly, pushing each song to the slowest or fastest tempo never changed the sound quality of the music coming through my headphones.
So…RockMyRun is now officially part of my workout tool kit! Even with my extremely varied musical tastes, I was able to find a wide range of music that I thoroughly enjoy, regardless of my mood or a change in training goals. It’s going to be key in keeping me motivated and on top of my goals, even during my most difficult motivational battles. Be sure you check it out!
