New Years is in the air, and with that comes the New Year’s Eve Parties and calorie loaded cocktails. Here are some tips to not let your health slide.
Essere consapevoli del fatto: Not only should you be wary of total alcohol consumption, but be aware of how many calories you are consuming. Cocktails such as piña coladas can contain upwards of 500 calories a piece. That is a quarter of your daily calories in one glass, so if you must have a drink, keep it low calorie.
Everything in moderation: Alcohol, particularly when consumed in excess can interfere with your body’s capabilities of absorption of specific nutrients and minerals, which can leave you with deficiencies. These can lead to more serious issues down the road if not addressed.
Make good food choices: Too often a drink or two is also associated with a slice of pizza, or four. Remember that alcohol contains a great deal of calories (7 per gram) let alone the added sugar. Watch those food choices if you are pairing it with calorie loaded beverages.
Keep yourself hydrated: Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it causes your body to produce more urine in ratio to liquid intake. Even with just a drink or two be sure to drink plenty of water. An active lifestyle coupled with alcohol intake will put you at additional risk if you are not hydrating properly.
Maintain healthy blood pressure: The more active you are, generally the lower your blood pressure will be, but when you consume alcoholic beverages, you temporarily elevate your blood pressure, and heavier drinking can have much longer lasting effects on your blood pressure. This could prove to be detrimental if you already struggle with an above average blood pressure.
This holiday season, do something good for yourself and your liver; refrain from consuming excessive alcohol, or any if you can avoid it. Your body will thank you.
